Emerson Electric Co. of St. Louis, Missouri is one of the most influential companies in flow control history, largely through the Fisher brand it acquired in 1992. Fisher was founded in 1880 by William Fisher, whose pneumatic regulator designs grew into the world's most extensive control valve range: easy-e globe valves, butterfly valves, rotary ball valves, severe-service trim, whisper trim noise reduction cages, and the FIELDVUE digital valve controller family that turned positioners into diagnostic instruments. Emerson now manufactures this portfolio alongside Rosemount transmitters, Micro Motion Coriolis meters, DeltaV control systems, and actuation brands including ASCO solenoid valves, EL-O-Matic rack-and-pinion actuators and the Aventics pneumatics business. This vertical integration means a single supplier can provide the valve body, actuator, positioner, measurement devices and the control platform above them — a significant advantage in lifecycle support and spare parts availability. Fisher valves remain the de facto benchmark in refineries and gas plants, and Emerson's engineering literature on control valve sizing and cavitation is used as training material across the industry.
