Metso, based in Espoo, Finland, is best known globally for aggregates and mineral processing equipment, but its valve heritage is far deeper than outsiders expect. Through the Neles business — founded in Finland in 1956 and acquired into the group — Metso manufactures a serious flow control portfolio: Neles ball valves, butterfly valves, globe control valves and segment valves, plus Jamesbury ball valves and the flow control actuation that accompanies them. These products hold strong positions in pulp and paper, mining, oil and gas, LNG and chemical processing, where slurries, fibers and abrasive media demand rugged, full-bore and metal-seated designs rather than commodity valves. Metso's valve diagnostics and intelligent positioner platforms, such as the ND9000, add condition monitoring to the offering. The company reorganized in the early 2020s but retained flow control as a core pillar alongside its aggregates and minerals businesses. For engineers sourcing quarter-turn valves for difficult media, Metso is one of the few manufacturers that combines materials expertise, valve engineering and process knowledge under one roof.
